According to Wikipedia, Employee Engagement is the relationship between an organization and its employees. Additionally, in the worlds of Simon Sinek, employee engagement is demonstrated through this quote: When people are financially invested towards their work and company, they want a return, but when they are emotionally invested, they want to contribute. Therefore, an engaged employee is someone who is completely committed, absorbed and enthusiastic about their work, and thus takes further actions to further the organization’s reputation and interest. 

In simple words, the process is about making your team WANT to do much more than what their profile or what their job description describes. And this emotional connection is what separates a successful business from the rest. How? What difference does an “emotional connect” to a company really make, if a similar level of work could be done by a team member without it? Well, that’s what I’ve unlocked for you today:

Emotions – The Only Hammer Against ChatGPT

Every other person today is talking about how AI is going to replace millions of jobs in the industry. But frankly, I do not agree with this statement. Because no matter how capable AI remains, it may never be emotionally invested into a task. That is where an emotionally engaged team has an edge against any AI tool. 

Let’s give it a thought: Why was it that out of all our teachers at school, we could fully enjoy some of the classes, while dreading the thought of attending the others? Because the person who introduced us to a new subject and topic, portrays it in an interesting manner, a manner you like to learn with. That is exactly how employee engagement can be introduced to a business as well. Business owners need to know that everyone learns and works differently, and must be allowed the freedom to learn, work and explore their tasks and challenges, so they learn in the way that they want to.

No More Working Just For A Paycheck

As a business owner, you need to learn what it is that your team is working for. Is their job their passion? Are they able to refine their skills through it? Is it something they enjoy? Or is the only purpose for it all, is to wait for the 1st of every month, and wait for the paycheck to come?

If a definitive “yes” only comes to you when you hear the last question, then we’re going in the wrong direction. It’s a sign that your business is not going to flourish. Because in the end, your team is the core behind your businesses’ success, and if they are not engaged in the work they are doing, then they’re not going to do justice to them, and neither are they going to work towards exceeding expectations.

It’s only when your team feels understood, and wanted in the organisation, that they start contributing more than what is expected of them.
